As the MSHA State Grantee for Texas, the Health and Safety Training Center is responsible for providing compliance training and a variety of other services to improve the conditions of mine safety and health within Texas. Training can be provided onsite at your location, or you may attend an open enrollment virtual training via ZOOM. The MSHA Instructor Training Course is an in-person training in Austin TX.
All MSHA trainings are conducted by MSHA Approved Instructors.
Open Enrollment Virtual Trainings
MSHA Annual Refresher Training
MSHA Part 46 or Part 48(b) Annual Refresher Training is a renewal training required each year (after taking the MSHA New Miner Training) to maintain compliance with MSHA. This 8-hour course provides a review of mine safety and health subject matter areas.
MSHA New Miner Training
MSHA Part 46 or Part 48(b) New Miner Training is an introductory course for newly employed inexperienced miners or individual contractors needing to conduct work at a mine site. The 24-hour course provides comprehensive instruction of mine safety and health subject matter areas including a First Aid/CPR certification.
In-person Offerings
MSHA Instructor Training Course
The Part 48 MSHA Certified Instructor Training Course is ideal for your company’s safety director, manager, or operator that would like to conduct your own training in house. The certification is a requirement for those operations that fall under the Title 30 CFR Part 48 for underground and/or coal operations or contractors that work in these operations. MSHA qualifications, requirements and approval are necessary to become an Approved Instructor. Review and approval will come directly from the MSHA District Office in which you are employed.
MSHA Compliance Assistance Visit
Compliance Assistance Visits are provided at the request of the mine operator. The primary purpose for the visit is so that the mine operator will be better informed of unsafe conditions/behaviors that could be immediately corrected.
